Picking the right foundation shade is a roller coaster in itself, having to worry about "Winter Face." is a nightmare— the dryness, dullness, inexplicable oily patches, and flaking that result from frozen slaps your face receives from freezing winds outside, and having the moisture sapped from your skin by dry, stale, and heated air inside. And worse, is when you apply a foundation in an effort to hide all that mess, it can often accentuate those dry patches and end up looking weirdly muddy. Here are the tricks makeup artists rely on to make skin look great, during the colder months.
1. one before using a foundation.
Tone and remove any flakes with a cotton pad soaked in a cleansing water, i.e The REN Rosa Centifolia 3-in-1 Cleansing Water.
2. Apply moisturizer before hitting the shower.
The steam in the shower helps plunge the moisturizer into the skin.
3. Moisturize strategically.
Start with your regular moisturizer, then press a balmy, thicker treatment moisturizer around the nose, cheeks, chin and forehead. Let it soak in and then blot out the excess with a one-ply tissue before applying foundation.
4. Swap your primer.
If your primer is not hydrating, find one and it will make your foundation look much better during these cold times.
Too Faced Hangover Face Primer. This is a good one.
5. Use a cream formula foundation.
Cream foundations tend to hold a little more moisture and give skin a nice dewy, hydrated finish, unlike powdered ones. I like Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Stick Foundation and Bobbi Brown Foundation Sticks.
6. Mix hydrating primer with your foundation.
You can mix your hydrating primer and your foundation together, and then apply th concoction with a foundation brush. It gives a lightweight finish and leaves the skin with a luminous glow all day long.
7. Mix Argan oil with your foundation.
This gives your foundation a smoother finish, while also giving your skin the hydration it needs. I suggest Josie Maran Argan Oil.
